Question about storing/preserving an oil pastel painting?
I just finished my first painting using oil pastels (those fun, greasy crayons for grown-ups...).
I am going to spray it with two or three layers of fixative to preserve it, but is this enough to keep it from smudging or rubbing off onto other things? Also, if I want to display it but not in a frame, is there any way to prevent dust from sticking to my painting? Thanks!
Oil pastel never really dries. Fixative won't change this. For this reason oil pastels and even dry pastels are preserved under glass. This can be done without a frame using glass clamps. Many pastel artist don't use fixative on regular pastels as this can change the surface.
